While I was in Page, Arizona, I saw there was a new slot canyon tour being offered in the area. It was quite a bit less expensive than the others available. I was intrigued by the name Canyon X.
So I decided to take the tour. The only way you can see any of the land based slot canyons that are part of the 28-mile long Antelope Canyon is through the Navajo nation. They own the land and the families of the tribe run the different tours.
The only free tour of Antelope Canyon is if you have a boat. You can access the end of the canyon by boat off of Lake Powell. A few years ago I took a boat tour of this part of Antelope Canyon (since I didn’t own my own boat). It was a fun, interesting and beautiful way to see the canyon.
This new tour is near the upper end of Antelope Canyon. Our tour guide was a very sweet Navajo woman who enjoyed her job very much and was very informative about all of the entire Antelope Canyon system.
To access this canyon, you hike down a steep slope to the bottom of the arroyo. You access the canyon in the middle. You go left first and then turn around and follow the trail to the other end.

For a less expensive and shorter tour, this part of the canyon did not disappoint. In fact, I think it was very beautiful and had lots of colors, twists and turns and unique formations.
Our guide was a sweet woman that you could see totally loved her job. She was very knowledgeable about this canyon as well as the other canyons you can tour. She was also very versed in all of the smart phones. She would ask to take your photo and then proceed to take regular photos and panorama photos. I really enjoyed her!

Every turn of the canyon brought another breathtaking view. The light on the walls would bounce off the curves and create gorgeous colors.

Our guide was also great at pointing out shapes in the walls. One area contained a shape that looked like a woman with long flowing hair. She said she is the sacred Woman in Red.

I love how the walls can show gold, red and blue.

So I asked why the canyon was called Canyon X. Our guide said it was because of a particular spot in the canyon. When you look up, the light coming in is in the shape of an X.

I had a wonderful time exploring the canyon. I think one of my favorite things to do is to explore slot canyons. The anticipation of what the next curve in the canyon will bring is so exciting.
I hope you enjoyed my photo tour of Canyon X.

Next post I had to opportunity to go back through Zion. I hiked a trail I haven’t done in probably 5 years. It was summertime the first time I hiked the trail. It was interesting to see it in the wintertime.
