Leaving California and Traveling up the Oregon Coast

I headed up the coastline stopping at various beaches with my last stop at Carmel. The shoreline really just flattened out and became a nice walking beach.

This beach wasn’t much to look at. But it made up for that fact with treasures! I guess a few ships have sunk along this coastline in the distant past. I was finding all kinds of broken glass and porcelain. It was fun to look for smooth beach glass and colorful shards of porcelain.

Treasures from the past

While I was hunting for treasures, Maddie had fun playing along the waterline. I’m glad she’s not into getting in the water. I went after a particularly nice piece of porcelain and the current of the tide going back out was very strong. It almost took my legs out from under me! What made it extra scary was the fact that the water got deep very fast. I stayed away from the waves after that scare!

I sat and just enjoyed the nice warm day and the sounds of the waves. While I was relaxing, Maddie was having fun excavating around me.

Then a parasailer flew right over me! I waved and he waved back!

Up from Carmel was Eureka. This beach was truly flat but it had a few nice pieces of old driftwood to break up the long view.

This photo is interesting because the orb you see is actually the moon and the bright spot under it is the sun going behind the clouds. It was really cool to see in person.

The next day I stopped at Trees of Mystery in Klamath, CA. This tourist attraction is right in the heart of the redwood trees. It was a fun place to stop. You got to see the huge redwoods right up close, and it also had some pretty impressive wood carvings.

We even got to ride a Gondola! Maddie wasn’t too sure about this ride. The man running the Gondolas was really sweet. He slowed it way down so Maddie had time to look and sniff at it before boarding.

After riding the Gondolas, we walked the main trail. The redwoods are just so big and beautiful! At the end of the main trail, you walked past the sculptures. So many well done pieces.

Speaking of Sasquatch! I loved the sign for the bathroom!

Just up the road and in Oregon, I saw an attraction that went way back in time – Dinosaur Forest. This park is located in a beautiful rainforest area. What made this park so great was that the dinosaurs are all life sized!

Not only were the dinosaurs cool, but the forest itself was so beautiful to see.

My first beach in Oregon was at Brookings. I stayed at an RV park that was literally at the shore. It’s so nice to wake up and just walk out the door and on to the beach. Of course, Maddie thought it was fabulous.

I finally had one day without rain!
Dawn was just a beautiful as sunset in the previous photos.

I then moved up the coast to Coos Bay area.

Thor’s Well

The wind was blowing 50 mph and it was raining when I visited Thor’s Well. It was insane!

But I still had a blast!

I then landed at Beverly Beach which is just north of Newport, OR. This beach looked like it should have been on another planet. The beach had some ocher clay with black sand – really unique. The cliff at the beach had a unique formation.

I was told by a geologist that this is preserved mud desiccation cracks.
I love how the sand is streaked with colors and broken up by the rocks.
I loved this unique piece of giant driftwood

There was a cool trail through a rainforest at the campground I stayed at.

I was getting very tired of rain rain and more rain. So I started to head east. I wanted to see the high desert area of Eastern Oregon. Along my way I stayed in the national forest. I stayed right next to a beautiful little waterfall.

And up the road was another gorgeous waterfall.

I wandered around the forest along Highway 6 and tried to get some cool photos of the chaotic rainforest around me.

I know this post had a lot in it. But I visited a lot of places where I only took a few good photos. I needed to catch up as well. While I’m writing this, it is late April.

My next post will cover Eastern Oregon and Washington states.
